The 1963 Chevrolet Nova SS (Super Sport) was Chevrolet’s answer to the growing demand for sporty compact cars. As the top trim of the Chevy II lineup, the Nova SS combined lightweight design with stylish details, including unique badging, bucket seats, and upgraded interior trim.
Under the hood, buyers could choose from inline-six engines, but in 1963 Chevrolet also offered a 283ci V8 as a dealer-installed option, giving the compact Nova real muscle-car credibility. Transmission choices included a 3-speed manual, a 4-speed manual, or a 2-speed Powerglide automatic, depending on the setup.
With its clean lines, nimble handling, and optional V8 power, the 1963 Nova SS helped set the stage for Chevrolet’s future performance cars. Today, it remains a sought-after classic, especially in V8-equipped, 4-speed configurations.
